Construction Timeline

July, 2003The Pavilion at The Belo Mansion is now a reality. The building opened its doors in early July and has accommodated section meetings and special luncheons already. DBA members are proud of their new facilities and will be for years to come.
June, 2003Here you can see some of the finish-out work, including outside light fixtures and the detailed hand rail on the balcony. Workers dig the area where trees will be planted and the retail space is clearly visible. In less than a month, meetings will begin being held in the new building.
May, 2003The Pavilion is coming together beautifully. The details of the architecture are really beginning to come through the final product is not hard to imagine at this point. Windows are in, fences are beginning to come down, and the rooms are beginning to look like rooms. In just a couple of months, this will be one of the premiere locations in Dallas and a great asset for all members to see.
March, 2003We have a building! The project is becoming so real now that the shape of the building is up and the crane is gone. The roof is now on the structure and from all angles the progress is evident. With the roof on, inclement weather will be less of a problem as the workers move to the inside structures in the Pavilion.
February, 2003In February, the Pavilion at Belo Mansion finally rose above ground, and the parking garage structure was finally completed. All the work will now be more visible, as construction crews can be seen now laying the framework and working on the actual Pavilion.
January, 2003Where'd the big hole go, you ask? During the month of January, construction seemed to progress at light speed, as all the levels of the garage were installed and the workers are now at the street level. Next, you will begin to see the structure for the Pavilion coming up!
December, 2002The foundation for the garage has been poured and levels are rising. Here you can see the workers beginning on the second level of the garage. A large crane was installed and is solely responsible for bringing building materials down into the hole. Workers now travel in and out of the site via the staircase at back.
November, 2002The construction workers finally hit rock bottom, literally. The red dirt had basically all been hauled out, and the workers begin planning for the next steps.
October, 2002The big hole just keeps getting deeper. In October, more supports were installed and the depth had almost been reached.
September, 2002During the month of September, notable progress was made in digging the hole for the parking garage. Here, at right, you can see the support columns that line up with the back of the house and the boards that have gone up on the side walls to support the digging process. The hole will go down over 60 feet before the parking structure is built.
August, 2002Workers prepare the support system for the underground parking garage. The retention system around the back portion of the property will help support the four-story parking garage. A 60-foot hole will be dug next for the garage.
July, 2002The first step to "digging the big hole out back" was popping up all the concrete behind the mansion. The former parking lot is now a pile of dirt.
June, 2002Phone-a-thons began in June where board members and bar leaders came to Belo to make personal phonecalls soliciting donations. Here, DBA Board Member Barry Sorrels and DBA Executive Director Cathy Maher seal a deal.
May, 2002Groundbreaking Ceremonies were held at Belo on May 17. Music, champagne and good spirits were abound as the Dallas Bar celebrated this historic moment.
March, 2002Many tireless hours were spent reviewing the building plans for the Pavilion at The Belo Mansion. Each detail was considered at length to ensure the most useful and attractive architectural design.
January, 2002Soil testing in the Belo parking lot was one of the first steps in the construction process. Samples were taken to determine just what the builders were up against in our Texas soil.
