Dallas Bar Association Passes Resolution on the Kaufman County Tragedy

The Dallas Bar Association has prepared a resolution regarding the tragic shootings of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse and District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia saying that  “the Dallas Bar Association condemns these tragic events as not only an attack on these individuals but also as an attempt to attack and intimidate the criminal justice system and the public; and that the DBA reaffirms its support for the effective administration of justice in Texas, the integrity of the legal system, and the rule of law.”

The resolution reads:

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was tragically shot and killed as he was arriving at work on January 31, 2013;

WHEREAS, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were tragically killed in their home on March 30, 2013;  

WHEREAS, the Dallas Bar Association supports the effective administration of justice through the civil and criminal courts;

WHEREAS, the effective administration of the criminal justice system is an integral component of the democratic ideals upon which this nation was founded;

WHEREAS, judges, lawyers, civil servants, and law enforcement personnel must continue to strive to ensure a criminal justice system that is fair and just;

WHEREAS, anyone who is involved in the effective administration of the criminal justice system must continue to be free to perform their respective duties without fear of reprisal or violence; and,

THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Dallas Bar Association condemns these tragic events as not only an attack on these individuals but also as an attempt to attack and intimidate the criminal justice system and the public; and

THEREFORE, be it further resolved, that the Dallas Bar Association reaffirms its support for the effective administration of justice in Texas, the integrity of the legal system, and the rule of law.
