Pro Bono Activities
Focuses on programs to improve the delivery of legal services to low income persons and provides assistance to legal service providers through volunteer lawyers who represent clients on a pro bono basis.
Meeting updates:
March 21, 2012
- SMU's Association for Public Interest Law (APIL) is having an fundraiser auction on Saturday, March 31st. Rebecca Greenan (rgreenan @ smu.edu) is the contact person -- ESPECIALLY if you are interested in making a donation. Get creative - law students might want to have lunch and talk about practicing law, go watch a hearing, go to a happy hour. Or you could just donate money... Tickets are $5 in advance (RSVP email below to receive advance ticket price), or $10 at the door.
- Immigration CLE (re: special status available for unaccompanied minors): This is a multi-hour CLE on Friday, March 30th at the Belo.

sbcglobal.net (214-653-7178). - We submitted our Social Media Plan and are waiting to see whether it will be approved.
- Tom Stutz will investigate e-filing in pro bono cases (we were considering a CLE)
- Anne Shuttee reported about plans to hold another Law Forum in mid-June, focused on lawyers up in Collin County and other areas north of Dallas

February 15, 2012
Our speaker this month was Maryann D'Aniello [daniellom @ lanwt.org / 214-828-4244, x.117] of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, who informed us about the Housing Crisis Center (HCC), which is supported by both LANWT and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP). The HCC helps people with a variety of problems, including evictions, rent disputes and repairs. Clinics are advice-only, Wednesday evenings 6:00 - 8:30 at the East Dallas Community Center (4210 Junius St.).
Our next meeting is March 21, 2012.
January 18, 2012
At our first meeting of the year, we introduced ourselves, learned about our subcommittees (to sign up, email Tim Ackermann or Bill Holston), and heard from five different agencies/organizations represented at the meeting: Human Rights Initiative, Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, Disability Rights Texas, Mosaic Family Services, and SMU's Association for Public Interest Law. Our next meeting is February 15, 2012.
