Business Litigation Section

The Business Litigation Section focuses on non-personal injury litigation issues. The Section's members practice in all areas ranging from employment litigation, antitrust, trademark, trade secrets, contract disputes, RICO, franchising litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property litigation, banking, and D&O liability, to business torts, generally. The Section's meetings and programs focus on procedural and trial skills as well as substantive legal subjects.

Meeting Schedule:

Second Tuesday of each Month at the Belo at Noon. Program begins at noon (lunch buffet available for purchase) and normally concludes by 1:00 PM and one hour of CLE is typically provided.

Upcoming CLE's:

November 13, 2018:  Carol Payne, of Estes Thorne & Carr PLLC, & Brian Lauten, Brian Lauten PC, will be presenting:  “Oh, let’s just change that testimony on the errata sheet . . . . What's appropriate, What's Not and Tips to Avoid Problems."

More and more, lawyers who have gotten great deposition testimony from a witness are later faced with an errata sheet that materially changes the testimony.  On the flipside, witnesses do make mistakes during depositions and lawyers need to know how to appropriately address those mistakes. When is it appropriate to make material changes through an errata sheet? What are your rights and remedies when you receive material changes? And, what can you do to avoid material mistakes by your witness during a deposition?  This presentation addresses these and other questions so you can avoid the pitfalls.

December 11, 2018:  Former DBA President, Paul Stafford, will sit down with legendary trial lawyer Rusty Hardin for “A conversation with . . . Rusty Hardin.”

In light of Rusty’s diverse and illustrious career, the conversation could range anywhere from Anna Nicole Smith to Victoria Osteen or from Arthur Andersen to NASCAR.
