Entertainment, Art & Sports Law Section

The Dallas Bar Association’s Entertainment, Art & Sports Law Section welcomes lawyers who practice sports or entertainment law, enjoy art, watch TV or movies, read or write books, make or listen to music, or participate in sports as a player or fan. The Section presents monthly CLE programs in its major substantive areas, bringing in experts from around the country. It also supports programs within the community.

Meeting Schedule:

The Section regularly meets at noon on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Belo Mansion.  CLE credit is provided for our presentations.   Each October, the Section presents a half-day Boot Camp on a substantive area within the sports or entertainment business.  Be sure to check the meeting dates in Headnotes or the DBA on-line calendar as our schedule sometimes changes to accommodate speakers.

Section News:

  • Join us on September 26, 2018 at 12pm at Belo Mansion for our monthly section luncheon.  This month's event is titled “Panel Discussion on Trending Legal Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics” and will feature a Q&A session with in-house counsel and athletics department personnel from local NCAA Division I universities about trending legal issues relating to intercollegiate athletics.  Specific topics to be discussed will remain fluid until the day of the event to allow for discussion on the latest issues but will likely include: the legalization of sports gambling, Title IX, student-athlete safety, grant-in-aid litigation (i.e., paying college athletes), the FBI’s investigation into recruiting practices in men’s basketball, and agent compliance issues.
  • Mark your calendars for this year's boot camp event, which will take place on October 12, 2018 at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station.  The focus of this year's boot camp will be legal issues in documentary films.  It will feature 3 hour-long CLE panels (including 0.5 hours of ethics) beginning at 2pm.  Additional details will be posted soon.
  • Due to the boot camp event on October 12th, we will not have our standard monthly CLE luncheon on October 24th.  Please join us for the boot camp!
