About the Program
The Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP), a joint initiative of the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Independent School District, places high school students with law firms and corporate legal departments throughout the Dallas-area for up to eight weeks during the months of June-August.
Students Eligible to Participate:
- Dallas ISD high school juniors during the current school year
- Academic average of 85 or above, no more than 10 absences, interested in studying law preferred
- Available to work normal office hours, Monday through Friday, during June 8 - July 31, 2020 (a total of either 4 or 8 weeks), however may be either part-time or full-time depending on the employer
- Available to attend the following orientations: Tuesday, June 2 – Parent/Intern Orientation and Thursday, June 4 – Intern/Employer Orientation
- Dependable transportation or access to DART during the summer
- Available to interview at school the week of March 30 to April 2, 2020

- Student review program requirements with counselor to determine if they are eligible
- A completed application
- A completed essay included in the application (100+ words)
- A cover letter and resume’ outlining your experience and accomplishments
- One reference form from a teacher, counselor, school administrator, or employer (references from friends, relatives or acquaintances will not be accepted)
- A copy of your transcript provided by your school counselor
- Select what interview days work your schedule in March and April
- Submit all materials, and application online at dallasbar.org
Interview & Selection Process (March-May)
- Student will be interviewed on their campus by employers
- SLIP Committee will review applications and place interns based on their interests and availability
- Dallas Bar Association will provide the student with an Internship offer letter via email
- Students will have 3-4 days to accept the internship job offer
- Dallas Bar Association will provide the student with internship placement information and introduce the intern to their employer via email
- Students selected will start their paid 4 or 8-week internship which will take place during TBD
- Submit all materials online by: TBD
Internship Requirements (June-August)
- Students must be available to work the entire 4 or 8 weeks; full or part time schedule determined by employer
- Students must adhere to their employer stated schedule
- Students must attend all orientations, educational events and end of program reception
- Students must complete their summer internship learning curriculum
